The higher education marketing race continues: Business Schools on LinkedIn

Linkedin DoodleOne of the main reasons professionals go to business school is to network, and the main purpose of LinkedIn is to help people improve their professional networking. It’s a match made in heaven. So, if you’re in charge of education PR and marketing for a business school, LinkedIn should arguably be your top priority.

Yet the performance of the UK’s top business schools on LinkedIn varies from downright poor, to pretty darn impressive.

Company followers

The first step in any LinkedIn marketing campaign is to build your company followers. You do this by including a link in your standard email signature to your company page, advertising your products and services and advertising vacancies. You remind people on campus with posters to follow the school on LinkedIn and you provide juicy updates (perhaps GMAT tips from your students?) to get them to engage with your school. So how did the UK’s top ten business schools do?

Once again, London Business School takes the lead, with Lancaster and Bath (*both of whose company pages are rolled into the wider university page) in hot pursuit.

Alumni groups

Business schools should make it easy for alumni to network, which means LinkedIn is the ideal platform for an alumni networking group. We counted the members of each of our top ten schools' alumni groups and the results are presented below.

This time, Warwick takes the top spot, followed by Manchester with the rest trailing far behind. Amazingly, I couldn’t find an official alumni group for Oxford’s Saïd Business School!
