Meet Our Office Dog

Meet Our Office Dog
This is Devon, TopLine’s office dog and CFO (Chief Frisbee Officer). Why an office dog, and not a cat, hamster, or ocelot? Well, besides the fact that ocelots are nocturnal, bad-tempered and only live in open, green areas (we have astroturf carpeting, but it doesn’t really count), we find that having a dog makes a real difference.

Some people might dispute the value of having a pet at all. To those people, we say: LOOK AT THAT FACE. Nonetheless, for the dour and ruthlessly pragmatic among you, the question may have some merit. After all, Devon can’t write copy, operate a camera, pitch to journalists, send Comms Plans, or do the washing up. She doesn’t have sapience, or thumbs, which play a big part in all of those tasks.

Well, the thing about dogs is they’re always happy to see you. When you’ve been beavering away on something for hours (maybe days) at a time, and the end only seems to be receding further into the distance, a dog has a noticeable effect on company morale. She revives flagging spirits and makes good moods even better – qualities that contribute immensely to TopLine HQ’s atmosphere of happiness and perpetual optimism.

Even if you’re not really a dog person, you’ll come to like Devon. TopLine Comms Director Hannah Tulloch is an inveterate foe of the canine species; she hates dogs more than spiders hate hardback books, and more than dogs hate baths. But she admits: “Even though I’m not really a dog person, I’ve come to like Devon.” High praise indeed.

Nowadays, Devon and TopLine are more or less synonymous: she’s been with us since she was twelve weeks old, and it’s hard to imagine a time before our faithful office hound. Her hobbies include taking long daytime naps – yes, the other TopLiners are very jealous – playing fetch, and going for walks. Standard dog stuff, really, but she makes it her own. She also has Instagram, but she doesn’t update it very often. You know how it is: you sign up to these things with the best of intentions, but life somehow always gets in the way.

Also, no thumbs.
