What is the point?

Your Yelp profile is a bit like a blog, the aim being to add as many high quality reviews as you can. Realistically you could aim to add one a day, or at least a couple a week. Your profile includes the option for a link to your blog/website, so fill that in!!

Why would a B2B company use this? How could it benefit them?

Register your company at Yelp Business and you can control how you want to communicate what your business does. See a good example here! Therefore, you can have both a personal and a business profile on Yelp and connect the two via your personal profile page.


For your personal profile, review what you like! But you can also choose to focus  your reviews around your business interests / specialism, and then add a link on your profile to your blog / company website.

Yelp is all about the community, and there even exists the local Yelp Community Manager – they organise local Yelp events and will probably introduce themselves to you via your Yelp profile shortly after you sign up. If you are a local business owner, get in contact with your Community Manager to organise an event at your local cafe/bar/venue.

What are the drawbacks? What are the benefits?

Yelp Business allows consumers to share the experiences they’ve had with local businesses and lets business owners share information about their businesses with their customers.

Search for your business on Yelp – if it’s there, make sure your contact info and about is up to date by claiming your business.

If it’s not there, get registered!  Google LOVES Yelp! Search for any local dive you know and more often than not Yelp search results will appear on the 1st page.

Yelp Business also allows you to communicate with your customers, publicly and privately:

  • Track how many people view your business page
  • Add photos, a detailed business description, ‘Meet the manager’, company history and specialities
  • And recommend other businesses

You can use your personal profile to boost your blog and / or Yelp Business page by including the link in your profile, but leave it at that. Remember that Yelp is all about ‘Real People’ and ‘Real Reviews’. Save the professional networking for LinkedIn.
