Why did we bother? Well, SEO is a complicated discipline. We can tell you that first-hand: we began life as a PR-only firm, and becoming a reputable B2B SEO agency took a lot of work. We had one part of the process down-pat – when you’re getting articles and comments published on a regular basis, you’re going to attract inbound links – but there was much left to learn, and a resource like this would have been mighty useful.
Why SEO matters
Before the internet, selling a product or service involved some combination of advertising, personal charm, and actually having something worth buying. In the digital age, they’re still important – but if you’re not placed prominently on Google for your target keywords, you may as well not exist. Search engines are the means by which we gather information and make decisions; the place where we choose what to buy and who to buy it from. If you want to increase traffic, inbound leads, awareness and revenues, it’s essential that you’re ranked as highly as possible.
Of course, that’s more easily said than done. SEO is a complex, ongoing process with a number of different steps. It’s about writing compelling, readable content with strategically placed keywords. It’s about generating links and improving your reputation, and it’s about creating an intelligent, intuitive, and organised site structure. It is, on some very minor level, about social media – but then, so are most things these days.
Creating a strategy that incorporates all of these things (and more) can be difficult. Reading an eBook written by a B2B SEO agency won’t be a substitute for that – but it will be a good start.
